Q4 is the most important selling period of the year for many U.S. sellers, and it is already underway. In 2026, Thanksgiving falls on November 26, which puts Black Friday on November 27 and Cyber Monday on November 30. Marketplaces also run their own events, and dates change, so always confirm them in your seller dashboards. Here is a practical way to plan.

1. Start with inventory and fulfillment

  • Estimate demand by product from last year's sales, current trends and your promotions
  • Check each platform's inbound and shipping deadlines in its dashboard; don't rely on last year's dates
  • Protect your best sellers first; stockouts break ad performance and ranking
  • Decide what to do if stock runs low: pause ads, raise price or end promotions

2. Get listings ready now

  • Fix titles, images and bullets on your top products
  • Add gift-friendly angles, bundles and holiday imagery where it fits
  • Make sure variations, sizes and prices are correct
  • Avoid big listing rewrites in the middle of the peak; test earlier

Our Amazon, Walmart and TikTok Shop services each begin with this kind of audit.

3. Plan pricing and promotions around margin

  • Work out your real margin after fees, shipping and ads before offering discounts
  • Pick a small number of promotions you can support
  • Check each platform's deal and coupon rules and deadlines

A discount that wins orders but loses money is not a win. Set a floor price for every product.

4. Plan advertising

  • Competition and click costs tend to rise in Q4, so expect to adjust bids and budgets
  • Put budget behind products that already convert, using keywords with proven results
  • Raise budgets ahead of key shopping days so campaigns don't run out early
  • Avoid launching large untested campaigns at the last minute
  • Keep negative keywords tidy so spend doesn't leak

5. Use email, social and video

Marketplace ads work best alongside other channels. Email and SMS flows can bring past customers back, and short video on social and TikTok can create gift demand. Always follow consent rules for messaging.

6. Prepare customer service and returns

  • Set clear return policies and response times
  • Check customer messages daily during peak
  • Watch feedback and account-health signals
  • Plan staffing for the busiest days

A simple Q4 timeline

  • Now to end of October: finish inventory plans, fix top listings, set pricing floors
  • November 1 to Thanksgiving week: finalize promotions, raise budgets for proven campaigns, check stock daily
  • Black Friday to Cyber Monday: monitor ads and stock several times a day; make small, careful changes
  • December: watch shipping cutoffs, keep ads aligned to what can still arrive on time
  • After the holidays: plan returns, review what worked and write down lessons

Common Q4 problems and how to avoid them

  • Stockouts: protect best sellers with a buffer and pause ads on products that can't be fulfilled
  • Price wars: set a floor price per product and don't go below it
  • Overspending early: set daily budgets and review them every day in peak weeks
  • Late shipping: know each platform's cutoff and stop promising delivery you can't meet
  • Support backlog: assign someone to messages and returns every day

How to think about your Q4 ad budget

Rather than a fixed split, think in layers. Keep a base budget on products and keywords that already earn a profit. Hold a reserve to raise budgets on key shopping days when click volume rises. Keep a small test budget for new products or formats, ideally started before the peak. Review everything at least daily in the biggest weeks.

Questions sellers ask

When should I start Q4 planning?

Earlier than feels necessary. If you are reading this in October, prioritize inventory, your top listings and pricing floors right now, and leave new experiments until after the peak.

Should I discount everything?

No. Discount where your margin allows and where it helps you win orders, and protect profit on your strongest sellers.

Is TikTok Shop worth testing for the holidays?

It can be, especially for giftable and visual products, but it needs content and creator work. Test with a small budget and clear stop rules.

How should I handle returns?

Plan for a higher return volume in January. Keep return policies clear, check packaging and product descriptions to reduce avoidable returns, and budget for the cost.
